When I first started reading this book, I was thrown off a bit. And not by the plot line or the personalities of the characters. Those are totally fine. It was the fact that it takes place in a society where everyone goes around naked. That was a little hard to swallow. In fact it's considered rude to wear clothes unless you're in private. It was hard for me to get past that unorthodox part of the book. But one I got past that, it was a good story and the plot drew you in very quickly. Weird things happen right at the beginning, so they waste no time grabbing the reader's attention. Chapter 1 talks about the lead character and the introduction of a mysterious woman. Next chapter, you find out she is a robot sent to protect him and some one wants our lead character dead. And off he goes on a wild chase after a mystery person and trying to keep himself out of trouble. The key word there being, "trying."
The novel is a wonder cross breed of science and fantasy. Me? I love to read fantasy and watch science fiction, so this book was perfect for me. The lead character lives in a futuristic society and ends up in the fantasy world by means that he works to understand.
The author is very descriptive of the scenery and the way this futuristic society works. He leaves no questions unanswered. And I love that about this book. I don't like to be asking too many questions too early in the story. And when there is a question, you know it will be answered. Piers Anthony, the author of the book, is a renown science fiction novelist. And for good reason, he writes stories that grab your attention and are not entirely unbelievable. He gives enough description to make the story believable, like it is possible that the future could look the way he depicts it.
Just trust me when I say, "If you love science fiction or fantasy, you will like this book." It is the balance between science and fantasy.
