Am I Conceited or Confused?

OK, so, I have the strangest obsession with make-up. I like to test all kinds of different styles on myself. And then I take pictures, and post them up. Now, does this make me conceited? I would say not. But, why do I feel the need to experiment anyway? Maybe it's my creativity, or maybe it is something else. Some like a latent need for approval of my appearance. Maybe that is why I post the pictures. I am in search of approval. 









Maybe that is why so many girls post so many pictures of themselves. It isn't that they enjoy to look at themselves (although in some cases that might be true), they just want people to tell them that they are beautiful. And I don't blame them!! All girls hear today is that they aren't good enough. In fact that was all I got when I was in middle school. I was told I was practically a troll. And I believed them, so mabe I post these pictures to prove them wrong?

I'm not really sure why I cared about what they thought though....I guess, in the end, I just wanted to be accepted? To finally be acknowledged as some one pretty?

  I looked into everything, from lotion to hairspray. But what says that lotion makes us pretty? What says that styled hair is pretty? I want to be able to go outside like this (see below) and not have anyone look down on me cause I didn't try today.

But no. Because the world tells me this isn't acceptable, I more often than not feel that I have to actually try whenever I go out. Although...I am less and less feeling the need to do this. I still like to experiment with make up. But I don't feel like I have to. But I still like to dress up every now and again, just for the sake of dressing up even if I am not going any where. So am I conceited or confused? I have no idea!! xD

Making a Blog?

I would have to say that making and maintaining a blog is not as difficult as I thought it would be. I was expecting it to be very complicated and confusing. (Which doesn't make sense coming from me since I am familiar with more complicated computer stuff...but anyway!) It was actually quite simple and easy to follow. We sort of walked through it in class, but I didn't save it correctly and I had to start over later without the help of my classmates. But it was easy! It was like 1 2 3! I opened my account, and right there it said blogger--create blog. I gave it a name and BAM!! I had a blog. Customizing was simple, so I created a blog that featured something I like. And now, I have a blog where I can voice my opinion whenever I want. Or if I have some steam to blow off, it's good for that too. xD

Into the Wild???

OK, first of all, who goes gallivanting off into the "great unknown" completely unprepared? Apparently Chris McCandless does, cause as I keep reading this book, the more idiotic he appears to me. I mean, he did no research and was therefore completely under prepared. I understand  the draw towards nature, but I would never go off on my own adventure with training and researching.
Second of all? Who abandons everyone they care about to go out on some half-baked idea? This is the part I can't understand, no matter how hard I think about it. He throws away all his relationships and his chance at a future without explaining anything to any of the people. Did he not think about how this would crush so many people? I know there are people out there that think that the world would never miss them, or that they don't matter enough to people. But, let me tell you, they couldn't be more wrong. I can speak from experience about this one. I used to think those very thoughts, and then I got a major smack to the face when people started to refer to me as their best friends or their goofy nerd. Or even more shocking, when i get a call from a guy in my class confessing his love for me. No one thinks about these things when they make these choices. And you know what? It brings one specific quote to mind. I don't remember who said it, but it goes, "You never know what you've got, until it's gone." And those words could never be more true. I might even goes as far to say that that might sum up a lot of Chris's life after his big choice. I know there are people who will disagree with me, but oh well!! This is my blog not yours!! And this is how I feel about the novel "Into the Wild."

Sabrina (1954)

Ok, first of all, this movie has Audrey Hepburn and who doesn't love her? She is one of my favorite actresses of all time. It also has Humphrey Bogart and I love his acting! He is also a personal favorite of mine. Those people were enough reason for me to watch the movie, they were both wonderful actors.  The third lead in the movie (William Holden) is not my favorite, but it's safe to say that he is still a good actor no matter how much I like or dislike him. 

The movie's story line is a little slower (but that is just how older movies were). It is about a chauffeur's daughter, named Sabrina, who is in love with a man whom her father works for and is a playboy named David (Holden). She is sent away to a school in Paris and when she comes back she has transformed herself into a classy, beautiful woman. When David see's the new Sabrina, he falls in love with her. However his brother, Linus (Bogart), has a plan for his brother and Sabrina is ruining the plan. He makes her fall in love with him instead of David so is plans can continue. 

I love this story. The actors all perform admirably and the script plays out beautifully. Everything the view expects to happen, happens. And then a few things they don't expect to happen, suddenly come into play. It leaves you wondering, "Who is going to win in the end? Does anyone win?" I love that the movie leaves you wondering who the victor will be until the final scenes of the movie. It is a beautiful story of romance that leaves viewers wanting to watch it again and again. (At least that was my reaction.)

            

Split Infinity...What can I say?

When I first started reading this book, I was thrown off a bit. And not by the plot line or the personalities of the characters. Those are totally fine. It was the fact that it takes place in a society where everyone goes around naked. That was a little hard to swallow. In fact it's considered rude to wear clothes unless you're in private. It was hard for me to get past that unorthodox part of the book. But one I got past that, it was a good story and the plot drew you in very quickly. Weird things happen right at the beginning, so they waste no time grabbing the reader's attention. Chapter 1 talks about the lead character and the introduction of a mysterious woman. Next chapter, you find out she is a robot sent to protect him and some one wants our lead character dead. And off he goes on a wild chase after a mystery person and trying to keep himself out of trouble. The key word there being, "trying."
The novel is a wonder cross breed of science and fantasy. Me? I love to read fantasy and watch science fiction, so this book was perfect for me. The lead character lives in a futuristic society and ends up in the fantasy world by means that he works to understand.
The author is very descriptive of the scenery and the way this futuristic society works. He leaves no questions unanswered. And I love that about this book. I don't like to be asking too many questions too early in the story. And when there is a question, you know it will be answered. Piers Anthony, the author of the book, is a renown science fiction novelist. And for good reason, he writes stories that grab your attention and are not entirely unbelievable. He gives enough description to make the story believable, like it is possible that the future could look the way he depicts it.
Just trust me when I say, "If you love science fiction or fantasy, you will like this book." It is the balance between science and fantasy.

A Perfect Community?

What does a perfect community look like to you? When I think of a perfect community, I think of clean streets, no crime, a roof over my head, and food on my table.
My perfect community (let's call it the "New Utopia") takes place in the future, where everyone is safe, there is no crime or poverty, no illness or hunger. In this "New Utopia" everything is absolutely perfect, and and everyone is happy.
In "New Utopia" everyone is unified by a government that is elected by the people. Everyone is safe because everyone knows how to defend themselves. No one has to worry about going hungry because food will always be available to those who need i, no one will be told they can't have what they need. Every person has a job and so everyone is a part of keeping the community running beautifully. Everyone receives the best medical care when they need it. And no one feels that someone else is better, because every one is equal. Everyone is given the same education all the way through college, receiving the best knowledge from the best.No one is left behind, no is forgotten, and no one is unequal.

Skechers and Sex?

When I look at the sketchers ad in school text book the first thing that crosses my mind is, "What does a half naked woman with a whip and a disturbed man have to do with shoes?"Than I realize something. Sex and sexy woman are one of the most used ideas to sell just about anything. In this case they are being used to sell shoes. The ad is directed at people that want exactly that, and are looking for a new pair of shoes.
These images are used to put all kinds of ideas into your head. In this case, I suppose, they are saying that if you wear these shoes, you are in for some "action." I suppose they mean that the shoes help to attract "appealing" women that like whips and sex.
The disturbed look on the man's face is harder for me to understand. He looks like he does want what he is seeing and is pushing her away. I'm not entirely sure how that is going to sell the shoe, but whatever they think will work, I am sure they are right.

What Makes a Beautiful Woman?

Seriously, what is it that makes a woman beautiful? Do we even know anymore? In Liz Jones's essay "What I Think About the Fashion World" she talks about how the media's image of a beautiful woman has tainted the minds of young girls everywhere, changing how they see themselves and other women around them. The media's image of beauty is forced on us almost every day, whether it is on TV or in our favorite magazine. They all tell us that we are imperfect, that we are not quite beautiful, that we are all average or even below average. What is being beautiful? It is a girl that is confident and comfortable in her own skin, a girl who feels beautiful no matter how much make up she is wearing or which way her hair flowing. But, the media is keeping a veil between girls and the truth about there real beauty. If they were to lose that veil, then they would lose business, if girls had proper confidence they would no longer buy any more products to "perfect" themselves. If their veil was torn, heaven forbid, the truth would be revealed. Jones was trying to put a small tear in the veil by changing the magazine's cover, and by writing this essay. As Jones says, "It's time for the industry to wake up and allow woman to just be themselves...I know that women are fed up with feeling needlessly bad about their wobbly bits." And she is so right! It is time for everyone to wake up, let women feel good about themselves for once. Let us feel beautiful!

Me, Music, and the World

When I look up advertisements for music, the first thing that comes up is an add for the Apple iPod. And that makes sense, it is one of the most popular a widely utilized electronic devices of our generation. Their adds show that image perfectly; the silhouette of a man or a woman listening to their music on an iPod and dancing like no one is watching. I guess people can do that when they listen to music that they really love, it acts like an escape from all the worries of the world so long has you have that music. And the iPod works like a ship that holds the key to that escape.
